Staff Information

Chris Burcher, Science Advisory Committee Coordinator

Dr. Burcher is a stream ecologist who began his career in 1990 as an undergraduate majoring in Fisheries Science.  His master’s work involved the aquatic stage of dragonflies in coastal plain Virginia streams.  During his PhD work Chris developed a novel approach toward understanding the complex relationships linking stream ecosystems to human land use.  As science coordinator on the Cumberlands HCP he is assembling the scientific principles necessary to understand how suburban/urban development and population growth can occur while minimizing the human influence on endangered species.  Chris brings to the HCP experience from another Nature Conservancy sponsored project that focused on balancing stream ecosystem health and water removal for the city of Charlottesville, Virginia.
